Not only can I not seem to finish this damn thing. I can’t even get started. I pretty much detest cross stitch. No, really. With a passion and intensity usually reserved for ex-boyfriends. I really thought I’d like it and I am very sad I don’t. I got this from Julie, at Subversive Cross Stitch and she has a whole lot of really funny, cute ones that I would love to just sit down and whip out. But I really, really hate it. Wish I didn’t. But, I do.
I think I am going to see if I can get my mom to give it a try.

I LOVE IT.
But I am terrible at counted cross stitch. You can only be good at so many things, and apparently my awesomeness has reached its limits.

Mad at your mother, today are you? Actually she’s a nice lady and one of my very favorite cousins so why would you want to shove off the cross stitching that you hate on to such a dear person? What does one ever do with a cross stitch project once it’s finished? Okay, one sampler on the wall and maybe a pillow cover that eventually finds its way to the backroom are okay. Your home decor can only stand so much. There are limits before it degrades into cutsie or even worse, a 1875 museum display. So, where to you put the nest project. Give it away as a gift? Soon you’d be like a lady with a garden full of zuchini squash. Nobody would let you in their front door if they see you coming up the walk. Consider it a lesson well learned and find a local charity to donate your cross stitching stuff to. After that, it’s their problem.

I actually LIKE cross stitch . . . because it’s easy and mindless! I mean, you just make a gazillion little x’s. It’s fool-proof! Though, admittedly, not something I have time for or would be willing to spend time on.
But I think badass cross-stitch is a great idea..

I am telling you, you have to visit her site. You can even order custom things. You know, you decide what you want it to say and they send you the pattern. Pretty neat.

Julie here – sometimes even *I* hate cross stitch, it’s true! It’s definitely different – like the difference between free-form word puzzles and crosswords, kinda. Pros and cons to everything, I suppose that’s why most of us are multi-discipline crafters. Thanks for blogging about it, though! I feel your pain!! 😉 jj

I have never, in all my 70 years, even CONSIDERED doing a cross stitch that said “Bite Me”. It just ain’t gonna happen, darling child.
Another thought. If I did do it for you what in the world would you do with it??
