Home Alone

Our neighbor next door saw me this afternoon and asked if John and I would like to come over about 7:00ish for a casual get together with a few neighbors to have a few drinks. John should be home momentarily and we will head over. Kes is at her boyfriends house watching movies with his family and Keelan is at work. Henrietta will be left to her own devices. For moments at a time. I will return now and again to check on her. This is about as independent as she gets. When we’ve done it before it works out fine.

If don’t post again she threw a wild party and burned the house down.

Pet Peeve #56

Serving Henrietta a plate loaded with all the things she usually eats and having her feel the need to go into long drawn out detail about why she is not going to eat certain things and how much she intends to eat of everything else. And all the while acting like she expects me to attempt to force feed her. I cannot possibly count the number of times I have said, “Henrietta, really, I don’t care. If you don’t want it, don’t eat it. You don’t have to tell me about it.” At this she looks a bit skeptical and says something under her breath like, “Well, I just don’t think I can digest it…..”. Sometimes I think she is disappointed there is no argument.

What’s really kind of funny is when I put a lot of something I know she particularly loves on her plate and she scarfs it all down and when I go to get her tray she tells me, very earnestly you understand, that I put too much, she can’t eat that much. This happened several times before she caught on that I wasn’t going to feel guilty about how much she ate. Every time, her plate is wiped completely clean when she is telling me this. When I point out that she DID, in fact, eat it all, she keeps insisting that it was too much. When asked, “Well, then why did you eat it?” She says, as if there was no way to help it, “Well, it was so good.” Of course when she tells me this I start laughing and then she giggles, too.

Update on AAAAAGGGGH!

Well, after Henrietta sat in her wheelchair in the living room for about 2 hours she was asking if we still wanted to take her somewhere. Bless her heart, I guess she started to feel guilty. Believe me, this didn’t hurt her a bit. She tends to be just a tad oblivious to the plight of the ones around her. And I mean REALLY, OBLIVIOUS. Not just acting like she doesn’t know what is problematic for others. She is very happy wrapped up in her own little world and just fine staying there. I think this is very much a part of her being so agoraphobic.

Anyway, we said yes, we would very much like to take her somewhere with us and assured her that we wouldn’t stay out long. By this time it was 4:30 and traffic was starting to get heavy, so we determined we wouldn’t go very far. There’s a new Target very, very close to us and we took her there. She had a ball. She was amazed at everything and kept saying “Oh everything has just changed so much….”.  I suppose she meant since the Truman administration. She was particularly engaged with the fact that Target has “Such beautiful furniture and clothes and groceries, too!” We picked up a few groceries and I made sure she went down the cookie isle to pick out the cookies she wants to have to go with her tea. She takes it every afternoon at about 4:00. So she did and was amazed with how much everything costs. THAT was funny. We then went over and I got a couple of bath towels for the guest bathroom and we left shortly after I took her through the clothing department.

We got her home and she said she had really enjoyed herself. We are going to have to try to get her out again sooner this next time.

Gardaland

Well, Cam and Melissa and Noah went to Gardaland yesterday. Poor Cam, he was told that he could either take his family and himself to this Italian amusement park or go to work. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I hope he’s not still wondering if he made the right one. In this picture he and Noah, MY NEPHEW, and Melissa, the other best part of my brother, are in the front row of the boat and his boss, Roy, Roy’s wife, Jo and their son, Garrett are behind them. I hope poor Garrett doesn’t grow up to be as evil as his father…. forcing innocent families to go on fun-loving field trips to amusement parks in Italy… When they could have been at work all day. What is this world coming to?

I hope the whole squadron had a wonderful time!

Now the really interesting part. Will the picture load the way I think it will? If not, I will call my brother and get him to post it for me.
